On approach after the runway is known I just load the runway or ILS or other apptroach procedure for the destination on the ARR page so it displays on the ND for situational awareness as ATC conducts me around. The you load the FS9 export into FS or other ATC and the same plan in FMC format gets loaded into your FMC (for the 737 INDEX/NAVADAT/FLIGHTPLANS - click on plan name to go to scratchpad the click on RTE page 1 CO_Route to load it, activate, and execute.
In that case build those into your plan, keep only common runway waypoints, and then export those with the plan in FS and your FMC format allowed by some planners. FSBuild and some other planners have a SID/STAR database.
There is another option available to you if using ATC. If there are separate SIDs or STARS for each runway and you don't know your runway assignment preflight just include the common points fior all runways in your ATC plan. One trick is to use just the transition points in your route occurring just before approach included in your plan sent to ATC. I use FSBuild for a planner that frequently provides free AIRAC updates. It's the SIDs and STARs where difficulty can occur since your plan and ATC must remain in sync. There are techniques to work around this but it does come into play if feeding your plan into ATC. The catch is with this technique that the data may not match your current scenery installs or flight planner. PTP file only, requires the old PMDG 737NGX for FSX/P3D and at least PMDG Operations Center v1 (NGX Livery Manager wont work).
